Paperwork Submitted for Adoption

As part of the adoption process from Colombia, there are many documents that have to be submitted. Along with submitting these docuements, all documents must be authenticated with the Great Seal of WI, and sent to LSS of MN to be translated and submitted to ICBF in Colombia. These documents are very time sensitive and are only valid for 6 months.

After all these documents are submitted, we will then begin the wait for our referral . Our application, and dossier will reside with the ICBF orphanage in Colombia. Since we are open to adopting a child or children up to age six years, we are told that the waiting period is generally not as long as those couples waiting for the referral of an infant. We are willing to accept a referral of a boy or girl, and also a sibling group. In a way we feel like there is more we should be doing, but in reality, there is nothing we can do but wait patiently. In the Colombia adoption program, there is a "wait" list, however, the government matches the child with the family, so you never know when you will be the next family to receive a referral. They try to find the best match for both the child and the family. There is no timeframe as to when the next referral will be given.
